Next Sunday evening at 5:00 PM, we have a bring and share tea and then time sharing together. Roger is asking for contributions of a poem a scripture of prophecy testimony or something you would like to say so please see Roger and he'll be delighted to receive your contributions.
On Saturday, Richard, Roger and Helen Stockton visited South Osset Baptist Church to see their Brick Church in operation. This is Richard’s report:
It is an informal event for families. As people arrive there is colouring, and a lovely atmosphere.
It teaches bible stories in an innovative way. We watched a video of the story and then the children (young and old) are challenged to build something in or related to the story – out of Lego. Or, if an adult wants to step back from the Lego building, they can join a table discussion about the bible story (it’s read and then the three questions below are discussed)
All the attendees young and old are asked three things about the story:
What do you like about the story
When didn’t you like
What did you learn about God
Asking people to respond in this way allows the Spirit to teach rather than us trying to teach or interpret the story for people.
Builds are shown off to everyone and how the story has spoken to people come out.
Afterwards, people are asked to consider who they might tell about the story.
The event has some food, one course before the build and pudding afterwards.
There were a couple of easy worship songs and prayer.
Food was very simple – pasta and source with grated cheese followed by ice cream
They didn’t have as much Lego as I expected showing you don’t need a huge investment to get started.
Impact was that it was informal, but session had structure, and each part was time limited.
What’s the difference between this and what we do now? The biggest difference is that everyone, children and adults get to respond to and engage with the Bible story rather than simply listen to it.
This week’s prayer for the offering.
Lord, we thank you for all of your good and wonderful gifts to we, your children and we thank you for the gifts that are given to this church. We pray Lord for your wisdom and your provision for your help in using the money wisely and well and we just commit our time together to you in Jesus name, Amen.
